Leinster Cross Country Relays

Leinster Intermediate, Masters and Juvenile Relay Cross-Country Championships
St Abbans athletes made the short journey to the Carlow Centre of Excellence in Fenagh for
the first of this year’s Cross Country Championships. The Championships combined the
Leinster Intermediate, Masters and Juvenile Relays into a busy day of action for the club. In
the Master’s race the club had 3 athletes to the fore. Stephen Hunter led them home when
he finished 16 th overall and 5 th in the O45 category. Colin was just behind in in 26 th place and
7 th in the O45 category with Dermot Ayers just two places back in 28 th and 9 th in the same
O45 category. Richard Mullins was also in action over 4000m when he finished in 12 th place
in the O70’s race.
In the Juvenile Relays the club had teams competing across all age groups with 4 teams
securing team medals, a great achievement at Leinster level. First up were the Girls U12
(Ava Brophy, Lucy Kelly, Méabh Kearney, Fiadh Rose Kelly) who finished in 2nd place. The
Boys U12 (Conor Keegan, Joe Leonard, Daniel Donovan, Rian Bolton) were next up and came
home in 5th place. Our Girls U14 (Hannah Haughney, Bailee Bolton, Penelope McMahon,
Roisin Kearney) team put in a fantastic performance taking victory. Our Boys U14 (Reuben
Kelly, Edward McDonald, Liam Doyle, Sean Doherty) finishing in an excellent 3 rd place. Our
Girls U16 (Laura Ayres, Mollie Kelly, Ella Murray, Ellie Knowles) were unlucky to lose out of a
medal finishing in 5th place, with our Boys U16 (Cathal English, Harry Brennan, Dylan
Donovan, John Conway) the final team out taking home the bronze medals. Well done to all
on an excellent day out for the club and an end to the testing Cross Country conditions for a
few months.
